Tartan Solutions is pleased to announce the limited beta of PlaidCloud, our new application cloud.
Tartan Solutions was founded by Michael Rea and Paul Morel in 2006 with a focus on delivering software and consulting services. Since our inception, we have had a dedicated focus on process improvement and support of strategic initiatives in Finance and Operations Management.
Paul’s primary focus is in the area of business software and technology solutions that unleash the business creativity in companies without the typical constraints imposed by traditional software development cycles and economics. Paul also has experience in the areas of supply chain management, software development, and competitive sourcing, shared service charge-back, and other shared service profitability management systems.
Paul is the originator of the Akorn Application Toolkit as well as the creator of several business applications in the realm of project management, inventory and supply chain management, workflow management, meta-data management, competitive sourcing, and healthcare. He is well-versed in the use of both server side and client side scripting languages as well as various web servers and databases. In addition, Paul has worked extensively with mixed integer linear programming applications to solve complex, large variable set problems.
Prior to Tartan Solutions, Paul was a manager with Diamond Management & Technology Consultants; a management consulting firm specializing in helping clients operating at the intersection of business and technology. While at Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, Paul worked with senior executives to develop business strategies that were executable given the resources and systems available. Paul’s focus was in payments strategy, IT portfolio management, IT charge-back, supply chain analytics, and business systems sourcing.
Prior to Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, Paul was a project manager for Strategic Systems International (SSI), which specializes in optimizing a customer’s supply chain and manufacturing processes for process manufacturing companies using large scale optimization algorithms including heuristic based approaches, Monte Carlo simulations, and large scale mixed integer linear programs.
Prior to joining SSI, Paul was a consultant with BearingPoint’s public sector practice managing several competitive sourcing projects. Before joining BearingPoint, Paul was a manufacturing manager at Honeywell Corporation. Paul began his career as an Armor & Armored Cavalry Officer in the US Army.
Paul holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business.

Michael primarily focuses creating and implementing decision support tools and processes, thereby enabling businesses to make optimal decisions based on the best available information and analytical approaches.
Michael has been a lead architect of multiple profit and costing model systems, including profitability models used for Alcoa Inc’s “Project SMART” enterprise profitability initiative. He is a recognized authority in the implementation and architecture planning of profit and cost management Business Objects’ Profitability and Cost Management toolset, and has spoken at national conferences on the subject. Additionally, Michael has built and implemented tools and processes to address various manufacturing and distribution challenges, including inventory & working capital management, distribution network optimization, catalog rationalization, and supply chain visibility.
Michael's background includes experience with design and utilization of mathematical models to make efficient supply chain decisions in circumstances with quantifiable uncertainty of both supply and demand. He is devoted to the development and implementation of decision support software designed to optimized efficiency in strategic decision-making and operation execution.
Michael’s work experience gives him a depth of perspective within manufacturing, distribution, and financial services. Prior to Tartan Solutions, Michael was a Senior Consultant with Deloitte Consulting’s Supply Chain Strategy practice. While at Deloitte, Michael’s focus was on serving manufacturing clients. Michael developed an expertise in costing and overhead assignment methodologies and systems while at Deloitte.
Prior to Deloitte, Michael was a project manager for Grant Street Group, a software and online auction company specializing in hosting online auctions for government and banking. At Grant Street Group, Michael managed enhancements to products that served the banking industry.
Prior to Grant Street Group, Michael was the Sales & Operations Planning Manager for Straightline, a division of US Steel focused on steel distribution. Michael was responsible for planning, supply replenishment, and the implementation of supply chain tools to automate material supply. Michael also led efforts in supplier negotiation and internal profitability reporting. Michael managed business intelligence, supply chain, and strategic sourcing initiatives. Areas of focus include demand planning, working capital management, catalog rationalization, and supply chain tool development.
Michael started his career as a component engineer within the Packard Electric Division of Delphi Automotive Systems. At Delphi, Michael worked within the Ignition Systems wire harness business, where he developed components primarily for GM Powertrain. Michael's work at Delphi resulted in three patents.
Michael holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon's Tepper School of Business.
Michael is a fan of decision support systems built on sound theory and high-quality data, working capital optimization, and the Theory of Constraints.
