Setting up a WAMP installation

In order to run Akorn, you'll need a PHP installation. We recommend downloading a WAMP/MAMP installation to get most of the way there. We've run with XAMPP and Wampserver with success. XAMPP is our favorite because it runs on Mac, Windows, Linux, and Solaris.

Note, the current XAMPP for windows build (as of 2/24/2009) contains a deprecated file that will cause your Apache to crash when running Akorn. You'll need to follow the instructions listed here: http://www.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=32617, and replace libmysql.dll in two places, xampp\apache\bin and xampp\php.

Rich user experience: Akorn applications possess the inherent deployment advantages of web applications. However, unlike many web based applications, Akorn is designed to give the user an experience that includes all of the features of a traditional desktop application environment.
