PlaidCloud Beta
Tartan Solutions is pleased to announce the limited beta of PlaidCloud, our new application cloud.
Problems with unintended font transparency are all eliminated by upgrading Firefox Flash component from 9.*.*.* to 10.*.*.*. For now, this is a workable solution. Users of old versions of Flash will have some issues, but many of those issues have been mitigated by the fixes implemented in the latest OFC2DZ chart object.
This blog pertains to the partial resolution of horizontal fonts becoming transparent in flash chart objects that use Open Source Flash Chart 2 or the OFC2DZ variant. Akorn currently uses OFC2DZ due to a number of additional features and bug fixes that it incorporates.
The problem we're experiencing is specific to Firefox. It has been observed in version 3.0.6; No similar issues are reported in IE, Chrome or Safari. Also, the Firefox-related anomaly has only been reported on Windows XP. The bug does not show up in Vista.
Originally, all horizontal fonts were being rendered as transparent in OFC2DZ charts placed in Qooxdoo windows. We downloaded the latest OFC2DZ build (Feb 23, 2009 build) and followed the instructions provided in the Notes We're observing that some of the issues have been resolved.
Tested with Feburary 23, 2009 open-flash-chart-full-embedded-font.swf. Tried font-family fix for title and x-legend & added “font: spAriel” parameter to legend first.
Tested with Feburary 23, 2009 open-flash-chart-full-embedded-font.swf. Tried font-family fix for tit all fixed as described in OFC2DZ release notes. Moved legend position to right. Note, y-axis labels are still transparent. (by the way, we know it's transparent and not white, because they'll change colors if we put the window over something non-white.)
Tested with Feburary 23, 2009 open-flash-chart-full-embedded-font.swf. All indications are that this is an XP-only issue.
