====== Weekly Update for 31 August 2009 ====== Oh boy, it's been a while since we posted some progress here in the weekly update. We have been completely heads down on the preliminary development of the new Python based Akorn. We've made some good progress and hashed out the overall architecture and method of operation. Actually, the PHP based Akorn is still a great blueprint for a robust architecture but now we are altering it a bit to take advantage of the Python tools we have access to finally. ====== ====== We were originally interested in using Twisted, and still might in the future, but it offered a great deal of things that we didn't really need with the cost of being more difficult to implement. So, for now, we decided to go with a more straight-forward approach of using Pylons as our base framework. Pylons is a very lightweight framework. In comparison to something like Django or Zope it is tiny. We didn't see the need to use such a heavy weight framework since our communication with the client is tightly controlled and is pure json. We don't need any templates or templating capability so some of the biggest advantages of the heavier frameworks simply had no importance to us. There are some other advantages to the heavier frameworks but we decided that the costs outweighed the benefits and went with a more streamlined approach. {{tag>dev, akorn}} ~~LINKBACK~~
