Supply Chain Analysis & Optimization
Optimizing supply chains can take on many forms. One form of analysis is a one time decision such as selecting who to use as an outside vendor or where to place a warehouse. It might also include decisions like backwards integration or use of a third-party to manage logistics or warehousing. These analysis are extremely important for the overall strategy and direction for the company and cannot easily be incorporated, without great cost, into a system based approach.
The second form of analysis and optimization is ongoing. We have a strong belief that too many companies rely on snapshot optimizations and don't take advantage of systems to continually make optimal decisions. Heuristics are great but often have a limited range of applicability. Combining heuristics with forms of ongoing system level optimization can produce dramatic improvements in service levels, inventory positions, and customer satisfaction.
